WKM Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Embodied Perspectives, a group exhibition showcasing the works of six contemporary Japanese painters.
This exhibition explores the relationship between the physical body, painting, and perception. Each artist presents a unique perspective, inviting viewers to engage with their work on an intimate level.
Some of the artists will travel in town, so it’ll be a lovely opportunity to meet them in person.
We would be thrilled to have you join us for the opening.

 

2月5日より、日本橋三越本店にありますコンテンポラリーギャラリーにて、個展を開催いたします。折紙をモチーフにした”Kami”シリーズの新作を中心に展示予定です。ぜひご高覧ください。

展覧会の構想に煮詰まっていた初夏のある日、ふと散歩に出ると、 家の近くを流れる小川沿いの桜並木の葉っぱたちが、風に吹かれてゆらゆらと重なっては揺れ、真新しい緑が太陽を透過して光っていた。今回はその情景から、色紙を複数重ねて、個と個の関わり合いに生まれる奥行き、空気の緊張感を表すことを試みた。
「Kami」シリーズは、折り紙をモチーフに 2014 年から制作している。
地面が揺れる日本では、建物が自ら揺れて衝撃を吸収する構造になっているように、空間的な柔軟性を持つという特徴があると思う。一つの四角い色面を様々なかたちに変容させる折り紙は、文化的にその柔軟性をよく表している。 あたかもそこに存在すると見えるように紙の凹凸を描くことで、 実際には物体は無い領域にまで絵画が拡張している、と言うことができると考えている。在ることと無いことの狭間を行き来し、見えないけれど在ると感じるもの＝古来より自然に宿ると信じられてきた神 (Kami) 的な存在を醸し出す。空間に風が抜けていくように、 絵画が拡がっていき、展示空間や、鑑賞者をも巻き込んでいきたい。
