千駄木に新設された文化施設の外壁に、壁画を制作しました。
外壁に2箇所、施設の内側に1箇所、全3作品があります。
大谷石のブロックの形状を生かし、作品と周囲の環境が呼応し合うような関係性をつくっています。
作品のイメージとなった「洞門」は、中国庭園において、壁に円などの形がくりぬかれた開口部の形式の門を指します。異なる世界観をもつ庭園同士をつなぐ出入り口であり、同時に境界でもあります。また円は禅の分野において、真理や宇宙を表します。
絵画の奥行きによって、この場所で交差する歴史、文化、建築、人々を繋ぎ、広がっていきます。

I created murals on the exterior walls of a newly built cultural facility in Sendagi.
There are three works in total: two on the outside walls and one inside the building.
Using the shape of the Oya stone blocks, I tried to create a relationship where the artwork and the surrounding environment interact with each other.
The image of the works is inspired by a “moon gate,” a type of opening found in Chinese gardens, often made in a circular shape in a wall. It works as both an entrance that connects different garden spaces and a boundary between them. The circle also represents truth and the universe in Zen thought.
Through the depth of the paintings, the works connect the history, culture, architecture, and people that meet in this place, and allow them to expand outward.
